Dory is the forgetful yet lovable co-star of Disney and Pixar's Finding Nemo (2003), and she was given a starring role in her own feature film, Finding Dory (2016).
Dory is a fish known as a blue tang. In the first film, she accompanied Nemo's father, Marlin, on a long migration to rescue his stolen son. Finding Dory takes place one year later, when Dory suddenly remembers that she was separated from her parents as a child and decides to look for them. Her adventures take her to California, where she too finds herself captured by humans.
Would you like to draw your very own Dory? Doing so is easy - all you need is a piece of paper, a pencil, and this simple, step-by-step drawing tutorial. You may also wish to have an eraser handy to remove guide lines and correct mistakes, as well as colored pencils, crayons, markers, or paints to color your finished drawing.

In each step, the new lines are shown in blue. Some steps will require you to erase lines drawn in previous steps.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing Dory
Begin by drawing a line, slightly curved on each end. Thus begins Dory's face.
Draw a curved line on each end of the previous line to outline Dory's face.
Draw a long, curving line from each of the lines drawn in the previous step. These lines form the top and bottom of Dory's body.
Draw a curved line upwards from each of the lines drawn in the previous step, allowing the lines to meet in a point. This will form Dory's tail.
Draw two curved lines inward from the bottom of the face, allowing the lines to meet in a point. Then, draw a short, curved line at the point where these other lines meet. This forms Dory's smiling mouth.
Erase the guide lines from Dory's mouth.
Draw a curved line from the tip of the lower jaw to the middle of the upper jaw, outlining the inside of the mouth. Draw a curved line parallel with the ridge of the forehead.
Draw a curved line from the forehead, looping in a backwards "S" shape across the body. The line should meet the bottom of the body near the base of the tail.
Erase the guide lines from Dory's forehead. Then, draw her dorsal fin using two curved lines that meet in rounded points on each end.
Erase the guidelines from Dory's fin.
Detail the fin. Draw a curved line across it, with several curved lines running the length of fin between the base and the curved line. Then, draw a series of short, connected, "U" shaped lines across the fin. Extend the curve of the uppermost "U" shape to reach the tip of the fin.
Draw a curved line above Dory's back, from the forehead nearly to the tail. Allow the line to come to a sharp point just before it rejoins the body. This line forms Dory's dorsal fin.
Detail the dorsal fin with a scalloped pattern. Do so by drawing a series of short, connected, upside down "U" shaped lines.
Draw an oval on Dory's side, passing behind the pectoral fin.
Detail the tail by drawing two curved lines parallel to the lines of the tail. Allow the lines to meet in a rounded point.
Indicate Dory's far pectoral fin by drawing a curved line near her forehead.
Detail Dory's eyelids. For the near lid, draw a curved line. From each end, draw a shorter curved line, meeting the lid at sharp points. For the far lid, draw a curved line extending from the face, and detail it with a short, curved line.
Draw Dory's eyes. For each eye, enclose an oval by drawing a long, curved line beneath the eyelid. Within the eye, draw an oval with a smaller oval inside it. Draw a tiny oval between the two, and shade the smaller oval.
Draw Dory's lower fin using a curved line, and detail it with several small, "U" shaped lines.
Color Dory. As a blue tang, her body is typically shown in shades of light and dark blue, with yellow adorning her tail and pectoral fin.
